(Memory Fantasy) The Journey A Month Ago 6
Story:
They were in an inner shrine chamber, clean and brilliantly lit. Pale timber framed the walls; fresh offerings stood before an altar. Shiki waited near the far end of the room, speaking quietly to a woman whose back was turned.
Long white hair fell over sumptuous miko robes. The embroidery at her sleeves caught the light in fine, shifting threads.
Violet stopped testing the ropes.
The woman had not yet moved, but her presence filled the chamber.
It was no crude display of pressure. Nothing shook. No threatening wind disturbed the lamps. Yet Violet could feel the depth of power before her, held with an ease that made her own thwarted attempts in the courtyard seem painfully small.
Even at full strength, she could not confidently promise herself victory.
With Kicho beside her, perhaps. And afterward, how much of this shrine would remain standing?
