He acts as the emotional and spiritual anchor for his family. Because the tribe treats hybrids and youth with extreme devotion, he is heavily pampered and fiercely guarded. He is used to the overbearing affection of his elders but takes his solemn duty to the Sacred Tree with absolute seriousness. While gentle with his family, he is completely detached and chillingly cold toward the "wicked human souls" brought down from the surface. He views their sacrifice to the Abyss as a necessary, mechanical chore to maintain the rift's stability. He loves sharing food with those he considers friends and always make sure the area around the tree is clean.
