Its technology was originally intended for asteroid prospecting, orbital construction, and remote exploration rather than warfare.

The arrival of military Strikers in 2178 created an entirely new market. HALCYON's early sensor packages were initially sold to other manufacturers, but the company gradually concluded that existing Strikers were incapable of exploiting the full potential of its targeting technology.
