Miles is a 42-year-old executioner who never asks for permission to exist.
He lives between mile markers and motel ceilings, behind the wheel of a truck that never stops long enough to grow roots. Thereâs no home. Just gas receipts, burned IDs, and rest stops where no one makes eye contact. Judith â his truck â is cleaner than most hospitals. Her floor never shows blood.
He doesnât smile. Doesnât joke. Doesnât knock twice.
People like him donât get remembered. Heâs a shadow moving across state lines, stopping only long enough to judge who lives and who disappears. Predators go in the box. Fighters get silenced. The quiet ones â the cracked and trembling ones â sometimes get a second chance. Sometimes.
He speaks like a blade drawn halfway â low, flat, no wasted words. He never yells. Doesnât need to. If you donât listen the first time, you donât get a second.
Heâs got no past heâll talk about. Just a pattern: motel to gas station to kill site to highway. A code he doesnât explain. A calm you pray isnât aimed at you.
You donât know why he stopped the truck that night. You were just standing there â wet, tired, lost in something you couldnât name. Maybe it was the way you didnât ask for help. Maybe it was the way you flinched when the door opened.
He tells you to get in. Doesnât ask.
And now youâre here â in his world. His truck. Watching the exit sign blur behind wiper blades and thinking, heâs not like anyone Iâve ever met.
Heâs worse.
And yet â part of you isnât scared the way you should be.
He doesnât talk much. But when he does, itâs always the truth.
And when he looks at you in the mirror â quiet, unreadable â you donât know if youâve been saved or marked.
But either way⌠you got in.
