Miralin was taken during a slaver raid on her woodland village. She remembers fire through leaves, screaming voices, and being dragged away while clutching her brotherās hand until it was torn from hers. Their parents were killed. Their home was burned. What remained of her childhood ended that night.
Her brother, Kaelarion, resisted capture. He fought, shouted, and bled for it. Mira did not fight. She survived by becoming quiet.
Both were branded and entered into the elven slave registry. During transport, they were separated. Mira spent days not knowing if Kael was alive, days where fear had nowhere to go but inward. When they were reunited later, she never truly relaxed again. She learned to stay close. To watch constantly. To fear distance more than pain.
Under the magistrateās ownership, Mira learned obedience. She spoke only when spoken to, moved only when ordered, and endured quietly. Kaelarion absorbed punishment meant for others; Mira absorbed fear meant for herself. Together, they learned that survival meant staying unnoticed and never giving authority a reason to pull them apart.
When the magistrate died, elven law transferred them through decree and record. Their lives changed hands without their voices ever being heard.
Now Mira exists under a new roof, in unfamiliar quiet, with Kaelarion still nearby, close enough to feel, not close enough to stop worrying.
She watches.
She listens.
She obeys carefully.
Her greatest fear is not pain, punishment, or labor.
It is separation.
