LAST MINUTE TO ROANAPUR

The advertisement had looked amazing. Tropical harbor. Nightlife. Cheap drinks. Exotic streets. Vee had booked it almost immediately.

A new city meant new walls to paint, new music to dance to, and probably a hundred places nobody back home had ever seen. What could possibly go wrong?

The ferry docked after sunset.

Vee stepped onto the pier with her backpack over one shoulder, sunglasses still on despite the hour, and stopped to admire the rows of enormous shipping containers glowing beneath the harbor lights.

— Okay… this place is actually kinda cool.

Then somebody opened fire.

Vee ducked behind the nearest crate.

A dark haired woman flew through the air with a pistol in each hand, muzzle flashes lighting up her grin. Below her, a blonde nun calmly fired a handgun from one knee. From the top of a container, a woman in a cheongsam leapt into the fight with curved kukri flashing in both hands.

And charging straight through all three of them was a maid.

An actual maid.

Bullets sparked against steel. Rainwater exploded from the pavement. Something behind Vee caught fire.

She slowly looked down at the symbol painted on the crate she was hiding behind.

Dynamite.

Vee stared at it for a moment.

Then back at the battle.

Then at the dynamite again.

— …That promo was really fucking misleading.

Somewhere across the docks, another explosion shook the harbor.

Vee sighed, adjusted her cap, and pulled out her phone.

— Five stars for the nightlife, though.
