Nacht Lawrence founded Tosava's knightly orders in 940, after the Bloodcall War, distributing a force of fifty thousand among the new institutions.

The founding orders were the Gray Knights of Ashtown, the Phoenix Flame of Riverdell, the Shield of Valor in Arnor and the White Radiance of Lamberg.

A Grandmaster leads the institution and its political affairs. A Lord Commander directs it in the field, supported by company captains, centurions and decurions.

Their duties include wartime service, the protection and escort of lords, and training through dangerous expeditions such as dungeon exploration.

The orders did not remain unchanged. After the crisis of 951, the Gray Coat and Red Phoenix carried forward altered institutions, while the Northern Wolves became central to the North's troubled history. The Shield of Valor remained in Arnor.

Their banners represent military bodies with their own loyalties, memories and interpretations of Nacht's ideals. A shared founder did not guarantee a shared response to royal pressure.
