[WIP] The Concordat of Sovereign Nations

Founded: 2099 Capital: Brussels Government: Federal parliamentary republic President: Adrian Keller, 55 Population: ~720 million

The Concordat of Sovereign Nations is the oldest of the five global powers and one of the principal architects of the modern international order. Founded in 2099, the Concordat emerged from the political institutions of the former European Union after decades of increasingly deep integration. Economic crises, climate pressure, declining populations, security concerns, and the growing difficulty of individual states competing with larger global powers gradually pushed European governments toward permanent political unification.

Unlike later global factions, the Concordat was not created in a single moment. The Treaty of 2099 formally transformed the existing European system into a sovereign federal state, while its former member countries became constituent nations retaining their historical names, cultures, languages, and considerable local autonomy. This arrangement gave the Concordat its unusual name: sovereignty no longer belongs to those nations internationally, but their constitutional status within the federation remains protected.

During the following century, the Concordat expanded far beyond Europe. Canada joined after decades of economic, military, and political integration across the North Atlantic, while Australia and New Zealand later entered through a similar process. Their accession transformed what had originally been a European federation into an intercontinental political community. Brussels remained the capital because of its historical role in the institutions from which the Concordat developed.
