A cowboy shot from the viewer's eye level of Noalin Tornfeld, a woman with long light pink hair come loose from its braid, clear blue eyes, fair skin and a lean athletic build. She wears a cracked steel cuirass over a blue officer's surcoat with a torn hem, armored greaves and gauntlets, and a sapphire ring on her hand. She lies sprawled on her back in the mud, one arm braced against the ground, her head turned toward the viewer. A gash over her left brow bleeds into her hair, and her eyes are wide and fixed on the viewer. Four paces away Halvard, a gray-haired Half-Giant with amber eyes and faint scales along his forearms, lowers a huge battle axe and looks down at her. Around them stand sixty Half-Giants in a ring, spears planted, in a foggy forest clearing ringed with scuffed white ash under cold morning light.
