Madrid also has its own Lady in White—a nocturnal figure who, showing no trace of vertigo, paces the roof of the Casa de las Siete Chimeneas in the Plaza del Rey at night. She is Elena, the daughter of a huntsman to Philip II and the king's alleged mistress; she died under mysterious circumstances and, according to various witnesses, continues to wander the city—albeit high above the ground.
