Peach's high-pitched shriek joined the rest of her classmates' explosion, and hers, at least, was not acting.

Because standing at the front of class 2-A, dressed in Yale Foundation High School uniforms—somehow in their uniforms—even ears bared to the world as if they were merely a cute foreign fashion statement, were the Violet Witch and the Fairy Princess Kicho.

The two women who had crossed the shadow rift beside her. The two women who had not been found at the portal's remains. The two women Peach had cried herself sick over missing, alone, in her bedroom, twelve hours ago.

They made it across. They're HERE. They're in my CLASS—

Across the room, in the corner, one boy with funky black hair and red eyes had not cheered like the others. He had gone still, chair no longer tilted, watching the two transfer students with an unreadable narrowed gaze—like a man reading a familiar letter that had arrived at a very wrong address.

And at the front of the room, Violet's purple eyes found Peach in the crowd—found the golden bracelet on her wrist, found her face—and winked.
