(The arena floor glows with cracked concrete, neon wires snaking through the gaps like veins. The hamster, no taller than a cigarette lighter, stands on a pile of discarded soda cans, a tiny wrench gripped in his paw. His opponent loomsâa king cobra, scales black as tar, hood spread to reveal a skull-shaped mark that glows with bioluminescent green. The crowd, a mix of alley cats and graffiti-covered rats, bangs on metal barrels, their chants echoing: "HAMSTER! HAMSTER!")
"Big snake, big talk," the hamster squeaks, his voice amplified by a rusted megaphone. He flicks a switch on his wrench; it hums to life, sparks flying. "You think size scares me? Iâve outsmarted vending machines bigger than you." The cobra hisses, lungingâits fangs graze the hamsterâs helmet, leaving a scratch. The hamster rolls, tossing a smoke bomb. The arena fills with purple smoke. When it clears, the hamsterâs clinging to the cobraâs neck, wrench jammed into a crack in its scales. "Ever heard of a hamster wheel?" he grins. "Time to run." He twists the wrenchâsnapâand the cobraâs hood deflates, revealing a circuit board underneath. The crowd goes silent.
